The SPARK Power Unit (SPU28b) is a next-generation portable aircraft power unit engineered to deliver exceptional starting performance in the smallest and lightest package in its class.

Designed for helicopters and light aircraft, the SPU28b provides class-leading power output, rapid recharge capability, and intelligent operational safeguards—all in a compact, field-ready platform built for both base and remote operations.

Unlike conventional aircraft booster batteries that prioritize size and capacity, the SPU28b is engineered around high discharge performance, delivering powerful and reliable starts without unnecessary weight.

Whether you're operating from a hangar, a remote fuel cache, or deep in the field, the SPU28b is designed to keep your aircraft moving.

Smallest in Class

Most portable aircraft power units are designed around battery capacity—increasing amp-hours to meet mission requirements. The result is often larger, heavier systems that still struggle to maintain strong starting performance as battery charge decreases.

The SPARK Power Unit takes a different approach.

Lightest in class

Rather than relying on sheer battery size, the SPU28b is engineered around high discharge capability—delivering exceptional starting power from a significantly smaller and lighter package.

How do we do it?

Traditional systems commonly provide continuous discharge rates around 20× battery capacity, meaning available output decreases substantially as state-of-charge drops. As the battery drains, starting performance can quickly diminish.

The SPU28b is engineered to deliver up to 600A continuous discharge, maintaining strong starting capability even at reduced state-of-charge. This allows operators to achieve more starts, greater operational flexibility, and higher power output without the size and weight penalties of conventional units.

More usable power. More starts. Less weight.

Here's the best part

SureStart

Operational Readiness, Protected

SureStart is an intelligent reserve power protection system designed specifically for real-world aircraft operations. Unlike conventional low voltage cutoffs that only react when a battery is nearly depleted, SureStart dynamically protects starting capability during low-current usage such as fuel pumps, avionics, lighting, or ground preparation.

If the unit is accidentally left connected or forgotten during preflight operations, SureStart intervenes early enough to preserve sufficient state of charge for your next start, helping ensure the SPU28b is ready when the aircraft is.
Rather than relying on a single high-capacity battery pack, the SPU28b is engineered as two independent power sections operating in parallel. This architecture provides fault tolerance during one of the most critical phases of aircraft operation: starting.

In the event of a partial system interruption, the remaining power section retains sufficient output capability to help prevent an aborted start sequence, particularly important during turbine starts where interruption at elevated gas producer temperatures can increase operational risk and engine stress.

The result is enhanced operational confidence through aerospace-inspired redundancy and resilient power delivery.

DualCore Start Redundancy

Because Critical Systems Deserve Redundancy
The SPU28b incorporates a dual-path parallel battery architecture designed to maintain starting capability even in the extremely unlikely event of an internal fault during engine start.

Modular Construction

Built to Adapt
The SPU28b was engineered around a modular architecture that allows the system to be configured for a wide range of aircraft interfaces and operational requirements.

Its adaptable attachment-based design currently supports multiple aircraft connection configurations while providing a flexible foundation for future expansion and mission-specific capability integration.
The SPARK Power Unit is not a fixed single-purpose unit, Spark Aero Solutions developed the SPU28b as a scalable operational platform, allowing greater versatility across aircraft types, environments, and evolving operational needs.

The result is a more flexible power solution built for modern aviation operations.
